Title of the Innovation: Wildland Fire-Fighting Suit

Brief About Innovation

Wildland Fire-Fighting Suit

Wildland Firefighting Suits are specialized garments designed to protect firefighters while combating fires in areas such as grasslands and forests. These suits allow firefighters to work over prolonged periods near heat and flames. The Wildland Firefighting Suit (WFFS) developed by the Centre for Fire, Explosives and Environment Safety (CFEES, DRDO) is a single-layered suit that conforms to the protection levels mandated in ISO 16073 – Part 3. This standard specifies requirements and test methods for wildland firefighting personal protective equipment, including clothing. The WFFS offers necessary protection against wildland fires without compromising wearer comfort. Notably, the suit uses a high content of indigenous fire retardant fibers in its fabric, contributing to self-reliance and indigenization of these suits.
